What are DTF Transfers?
What is a DTF transfer?
DTF (Direct-to-Film) transfers are vibrant, full-color designs that can be heat pressed onto a variety of garments. They give you a professional-looking print without needing special printing equipment.
What can I put a DTF transfer on?
Great news—DTF transfers love almost any fabric! They work beautifully on:
- Cotton
- Polyester
- Cotton/Poly blends
- Tri-blends
- Denim
- Canvas
Whether your garment is light or dark, DTF transfers are up for the job.
What is the application process for DTF transfers?
What do I need to apply my transfer?
You’ll need:
A heat press (highly recommended)
Your garment
Parchment paper or a cover sheet
A little bit of patience and a lot of creativity!
Household irons aren’t recommended because they don’t provide even heat and pressure.
How do I apply my DTF transfer?
Step 1: Prep Your Garment
Give your garment a quick pre-press for 5–10 seconds to remove wrinkles and moisture.
Step 2: Place Your Design
Position your transfer exactly where you want it. Double-check placement before pressing—there are no do-overs once it’s applied!
Step 3: Press It
Recommended settings:
- Temperature: 300°F–325°F
- Time: 10–15 seconds
- Pressure: Medium to firm
Heat presses can vary, so a test press is always a good idea.
Step 4: Peel
Your transfer is a cold peel, let it cool completely before removing the film. Then peel slowly and smoothly.
Step 5: Final Press
After peeling the film repress image for 5–10 seconds. This helps create a soft feel and long-lasting finish.
My transfer isn’t sticking. What happened?
Don’t panic! Check these common issues:
- Temperature may be too low
- Pressure may be too light
- Press time may be too short
- Garment may contain moisture
A quick adjustment and repress usually does the trick.
Can I move my transfer after pressing?
Unfortunately, no. Once it’s pressed, it’s there to stay. Always check your placement before applying heat.
